Austria Auction Company Sale

The Austria Auction Company will be holding there sale of high quality rugs, carpets and textiles on Saturday 16th November 2019. The sale comprises of the collection of Fritz and Hermi Schedlmayer, and pieces rang from the 16th century through to the early 19th century, and include very fine examples from Turkey, North Africa, Iran (Persia) and the Caucasus. The stand out pieces from the sale are Thirteen masterpieces from the wider Ottoman domain. Two Algerian silk embroideries show the influence of the Ottoman floral style, and one that is perfectly articulated in an exceptional 17th century Ottoman silk embroidered quilt cover. The prayer rugs of Anatolia have long been the focus of European artists and collectors, and the collection has five rugs of this type. There are also two classical carpets from the 16th century, a Lotto rug from west Anatolia and a rare and good condition Cairene, rug made after the Egyptian land came under Ottoman rule. Three Anatolian rugs showing the village weaving traditions of the 17th to 19th centuries, arguably the most important of which is a rug from Sarkisla in east central Turkey. Also in this sale is 31 lots from a private collection, including beautiful silk embroideries from Azerbaijan which best represents the classical period of Safavid textile art, and a colourful Karabagh Dragon carpet, in good condition.
