Krishna in the Garden of Assam exhibition at the British Museum London
London's British Museum with host the Krishna in the Garden of Assam exhibition, from 21st January to 15th August 2016. Here you can discover a little-known chapter of Indian history through the largest surviving example of an Assamese devotional textile, the Vrindavani Vastra.
The Vrindavani Vastra (literally 'the cloth of Vrindavan') was produced in Assam in north-eastern India sometime in the late 17th century. It is made of woven silk and figured with scenes from the life of the Hindu god Krishna during the time he lived in the forest of Vrindavan. It was made to be used in the Krishna cult which developed following the ministry of the Assamese saint Shankaradeva (d.1568).
At over 9 metres long, this Assamese textile is the largest of its type to survive. It is made up of 12 strips, all now sewn together. The Krishna scenes on the textile are from the 10th century text the Bhagavata Purana, and are elaborated in the dramas of Shankaradeva. A verse from one of these is also woven into the textile, using immensely sophisticated weaving technology, now extinct in India.

Interior Design 2016
With the festivities well behind us the New Year push to start those all-important interior design projects is foremost on our minds. London's interior design shows start in January with Top Drawer 17th-19th January 2016 at London's Olympia, and many others including The Ideal Home show 18th March-3rd April 2016 also at London's Olympia.
Probably the very first thing you should purchase for your new interior design project is the Oriental rug or carpet, this is often the centre piece of the room and pulls all the colours together. But because handmade Oriental rugs are limited in there colour palette due to natural dyes, it is important to fit the sofa and curtain fabrics to the rug or carpet, not the other way around.
David J.Wilkins are renowned experts in this field and have been helping there clients for over 35 years, guiding them through the maze of handmade rugs and carpets form Persia, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and many other rug weaving countries.
So give David or Alex a call to arrange an appointment to view the huge selection of handmade Oriental rugs and carpets at London's wholesale Oriental rug warehouses. www.orientalrugexperts.com
