The sale consists of 475 lots, including a fine collection of Islamic tiles from a property of a European collector, also various oriental rugs and carpets. Bonhams London Auctions will be holding their Fine Decorative Arts sale on 25th November 2020, the auction includes a limited number of Flemish tapestries, rugs, and carpets.

Christie’s of London Art of the Islamic & Indian Worlds

In London on Wednesday 28th October 2020, Christie's Auction House will be holding their Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds sale, this also includes Oriental Rugs and Carpets. Some of the highlights are an early example of a rare Cairene prayer rug (lot 215) one of only fifteen surviving, and a richly coloured Anatolian Ushak carpet (lot 185) a fine example of weaving in the Ottoman Empire. A fine 18th century Eagle Kazak rug (150), and an impressive large Persian Bakhtiari carpet (lot 168) woven for the Persian Khans with a striking mosaic design, and an unusual pictorial Kerman rug signed by Abu l Qasim, depicting a polo scene, also a beautiful Persian Mohtasham Kashan rug (lot 205). Also in London Sotheby's Auction House will be holding a sale on the 27th October 2020, this sale is dedicated to a single owner L.A. Mayer Museum for Islamic Art Jerusalem. Oriental rugs and carpets of note that are included in this sale, is a important Star Anatolian Ushak carpet, a Polonaise rug, and a rare Azerbaijan garden carpet, Also a spectacular Persian Heriz silk carpet.

The month of October hosts the most Oriental rug and carpet auctions, and this October is no exception. The Austria Auction Company is holding a sale of fine antique oriental rugs, at their Palais Breuner rooms in Vienna on Saturday 24th October 2020. The sale offers a fine selection from Europe's collectors and grand houses, including a rare single medallion Eagle or Sunburst Kazak rug, this design is attributed to the Chelaberd in the southeast Caucasus, (lot 68 estimated €25,000-€35,000). Dorotheum will auction almost 240 rugs, carpets and textiles at their Vienna showroom on Monday 21st October 2020. Highlights are a fine Persian Kerman Lavar rug with inscriptions (lot 91), a large group of fine Persian carpets in various sizes, a selection of Caucasian rugs, a rare Ningxia tiger rug (lot 172), a Kashgar silk carpet, an Ivory Anatolian Ushak carpet, and a very striking Persian Serapi carpet. Stuttgart's Nagel Auction's are holding their sale of Collector's Rugs & Carpets, Tribal & Oriental Art sale on Friday 23rd October 2020, inccded in the sale are a number of collectors rugs,carpets and textiles from a private German collection. Over in the US Material Culture's sale of fine decorative and collectible antique oriental rugs, will take place on Wednesday 21st October 2020, they have 299 lots of Persian carpets from American estates, highlights include a 17th century Spanish Alcaraz rug (lot 15 estimated $3,000-$5,000) a 17th century Anatolian Ushak carpet (lot 22 estimated $7,000-$10,000) an early 19th century Chinese metal thread rug, along with outstanding Persian room-size carpets from Serapi, Bakshaish, Ziegler, Ferahan, Tabriz, and a mansion size Bidjar carpet.

On Thursday 15th October 2020 Nazmiyal auctions will be holding their fine Oriental rugs and carpets sale. Collector Rugs & Carpets Sale

On Saturday 10th October 2020, Henry's of Mutterstadt will be holding their Collector Rugs & Carpets sale. The sale will comprise of 353 lots with rugs and carpets from Persian, Anatolia, the Caucasus, China, Tibet, Turkmenistan and Indonesia. One of the highlights of the sale is a early 19th century white ground star Kazak rug, a selection of Anatolian rugs including an east Anatolian rug from the second half of the 18th century, with a similar design to a carpet published by Schurmann, and a central Anatolian saf prayer kilim published by Neriz, also an 18th century Salor main carpet, a C gul main carpet and a selection of fine and decorative rugs and carpets including a large white ground Persian Heriz Serapi carpet, and two inscribed silk and metal thread imperial Chinese rugs from the Forbidden City.

Wannenes Antique Rugs and Carpets will be holding their sale on 28th September 2020, at their Milan sale room. The sale comprises of 197 lots including antique Persian, Caucasian, Anatolian and Chinese rugs and carpets. Koller's of Zurich will be holding their next sale of rugs and carpets on 24th September 2020. The sale comprises of 67 lots including collector's items as well as decorative rugs and carpets. One of the highlights of the sale is a Persian Heriz/Serapi carpet, with a central medallion on a light-blue field and red corner motifs, (lot 1530, estimate £3,200-£4,900).

Netherhampton Salerooms will be holding their next oriental rug, carpet and textile auction on Wednesday 16th September 2020. The auction includes 398 lots of Persian, Caucasian, Anatolian, Turkmen and Chinese rigs and carpets. Over in Europe Bruun Rasmussen auctions, Copenhagen will hold their international sale which includes oriental rugs and carpets, the sale takes place on 16th September 2020. Some of the highlights of this sale is the Schloss Jagerhof Indian Agra Palace carpet, several beautiful Caucasian rugs, a fine mint condition Persian Kashan silk souf and a fine weave Brussels tapestry. In Zurich Schuler auctions will host their Carpets, Rugs, Textiles sale on Wednesday 16th September 2020, included are 141 lots of Persian carpets, Caucasian rugs, and some very fine pure silk rugs and carpets.

Lyon & Turnbull Sale Thursday 3rd September 2020

Edinburgh's auctioneers Lyon & Turnbull are holding an important sale on Thursday 3rd September 2020, the sale includes over 200 lots from the Earl of Crawford and Balcarres. This treasure trove of antiques was discovered by specialists during a visit to Balcarres House, notably two textiles, a Flemish tapestry of Dido and Aenaes (lot 441), and a Indo-Portuguese embroidered coverlet (lot 614), the mythological tapestry dates to the late 17th/early 18th century, and was likely made in Bruges, estimated at £6,000-£8,000. It depicts an early scene of the lovers, with Dido approaching a sleeping Aenaes with Cupid in tow. The coverlet, embroidered in yellow tussah silk threads was made in Bengal during the 17th century, and is typical of its type revealing a mixture of Hindu and Christian imagery which appealed to the Portuguese market of the time. Originally made as diplomatic gifts or souvenirs, colchas soon made their way throughout Europe, and examples exist in major museum collections today, including at the Met and the V&A. the estimate is £3,000-£5,000. The Sale also includes two fine 19th century Amritsar carpets from Northern India.

Woolley & Wallis Auctioneers of Salisbury will be holding their sale of Oriental rugs, carpets, textiles & antiques, on Tuesday 11th August 2020. The sale will include a private collection of European and Ottoman textiles (lot 355-372), highlights of which are two silk mosque portieres, an Indo-Portuguese embroidered carpet and a Turkish Kashmir wool and metal thread cover circa 1800. The sale also includes a beautiful antique Persian Serapi carpet, and three antique Persian Ziegler carpets, and a very unusual large decorative Ottoman marriage tent.

Fine Antique Oriental Rugs

The Austria Auction Company will be holding their mid summer specialist auction of oriental rugs, carpets, and textiles on Saturday 1st August 2020. The sale comprises of 157 weaving's from various owners, with Caucasian rugs and carpets of the late 19th century and early 20th century clearly the main focus. 95 lots are claiming to be have Caucasian heritage, the majority are piled weaving's. While there are a number of standard Shirvan and Kuba rugs, and Kazak carpets, there is also an unusual Fachralo Kazak rug (lot 76, estimate £5,500-£7,500), which has a unique blue ground design.
